Brief – To create a modern, warm and functional space by completely redesigning and decorating this living room, with all new furnishings. When my client moved into her modern new-build property, the living room felt like a blank canvas—spacious yet narrow, lacking features, and missing the warmth and character she dreamed of. She wanted a modern, cosy design inspired by Scandi style that would suit her and her young daughter while providing enough space to entertain family and friends.
Design – The challenge, as with many new builds, the property had little architectural detail and a tricky layout due to the narrow room dimensions. My client was drawn to the simplicity of Scandinavian design but wasn’t sure how to bring the vision to life or make the space work for everyday living and hosting.
To achieve a Scandinavian-inspired feel, the design featured a muted pink and green colour palette, paired with natural light to create an airy yet cosy atmosphere. A wood-panelled (Naturewall) feature wall added texture and warmth, becoming a focal point in the room. Modern wooden furniture and accessories, with touches of natural materials, complemented the Scandi aesthetic.
The layout maximised the room’s potential by creating two distinct zones. A cosy seating area was designed around the television, offering plenty of room for socialising and relaxing with friends and family. At the opposite end, a peaceful reading nook provided a calm retreat, perfect for enjoying a book or gazing out of the window.
The final design struck the perfect balance between style and functionality, transforming the space into a warm, inviting living room that feels modern yet homely. Clean lines, layered textures, and thoughtful layout solutions make the room a true reflection of the client’s needs.
