Trouble picking paint?
Have you ever spent hours testing paint colours, only to find the one you picked looks nothing like you imagined once it’s on the wall? You’re not alone!
The way paint looks can change dramatically depending on light, wall texture, and even the time of day.
If you’re getting ready to refresh a room (maybe before the Christmas guests arrive!), I’ve got some tips to help you choose the perfect shade:
- Always buy samples of your shortlisted colours—the wall finish can look very different from swatches in a store
- Test paint in the finish you plan to use (e.g., matt or satin)
- Limit samples to three shades to make the decision easier
- Paint directly on the wall, not on boards or paper, to get the most accurate result
- Paint a generous area (A4 size or bigger) and leave space between samples
- Test on at least two walls, one with lots of light
- Compare paint with flooring samples for a cohesive look
- Sleep on your decision—good design is worth taking your time!
Follow these steps, and you’ll find the colour that truly works for your space.
