The 2023 colour from Pantone is Viva Magenta 18-1750. It is described as an exciting purple-red tone expressive of a new signal of strength. It is described by Pantone as brave and fearless, pulsating colour that promotes optimism and joy. It encourages experimentation without restraint, a shade that makes a statement.
The colour has prehistoric roots and reconnects us to the original matter and invoking the forces of nature. As we become more connected to digital devices it is important, we ensure a link to the natural world.
While Viva Magenta 18-1750 doesn’t seem like an obvious colour for this compared to browns and greens, it’s refreshing to see a new take on a natural colour. Descending from the red family and inspired by the red of cochineal*, a precious natural dye.
