What do you look forward to the most on Christmas Day lunch?

One of my favourite traditions is making my special gravy (adapted from Jamie Oliver’s recipe over the years!).

I always prepare it ahead of time—it’s a bit of a labour of love and takes hours—but it’s so worth it. I freeze it and then just add a few finishing touches on Christmas Day, making it stress-free and delicious!

Christmas candles – Nothing brings the holiday spirit to life quite like candles. They add warmth and coziness to chilly winter evenings. For a simple yet elegant touch, use an old vase or hurricane candle holder, fill the base with faux snow, and place a battery-operated chunky candle inside. Display your candle holder on a wooden tray or surround it with a lush garland of greenery.

Fruit in a bowl – Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the most effective. Choose a large, open bowl and fill it with vibrant, seasonal fruits like oranges or pomegranates. Add a few sprigs of faux greenery for a festive pop.

Repurposed ornaments – Don’t forget about your collection of old ornaments (retro is very ‘in’ this year)! Gather baubles, pinecones, fairy lights, and faux greenery, and arrange them in a decorative bowl, tray, or shallow basket for a nostalgic, festive display.

Creative wreath displays – Think outside the box with mini wreaths! Hang them from cupboard handles, mirrors, or tuck them onto shelves. They also make charming additions to the backs of dining chairs or can be used as centrepieces on your holiday table.

Paper snowflakes – Easy to make or find online, paper snowflakes can add a touch of winter magic. Hang them on the wall, drape them over the fireplace, attach them to bookshelves, or even scatter them on the floor for a whimsical effect.

Pinecones in a bowl – I love collecting pinecones! Sprinkle some faux snow over them and display them in a bowl or vase. For a little sparkle, add a string of fairy lights to make them shine.

Decorative stairs – Give your staircase a festive upgrade with a long length of ribbon. Attach leftover decorations, tie greenery to the railing, and create bows at different points. Hang ornaments at varying heights for a layered, eye-catching look.

It’s the perfect time to start thinking about your Christmas table, so you have plenty of time to gather everything you need.

I truly enjoy setting my table on Christmas Eve, taking my time to create something special and savoring the process.

To begin, choose your colour scheme and think about what will make your centrepiece stand out. You could go for a natural look with fresh greenery, or opt for baubles and battery-powered LED lights, or even a simple arrangement of candles for an elegant touch.

A table runner is a great foundation for your centrepiece, and layering placemats of different shapes and sizes will add texture and visual interest to your table setting.

Choose a dinner set that includes dinner plates, side plates, and bowls—white china is always a timeless backdrop that lets the other decorative elements shine.

Don’t forget drinkware! Champagne flutes, wine glasses, and tumblers in a variety of colours and shapes can add a playful touch. Be sure you have enough cutlery for every course and finish it off with cloth napkins. A mix-and-match look can be charming and add character.

Make your guests feel special with place names—perhaps a name tag set in a pinecone, or even a small token gift at each place setting instead of a traditional cracker.

And don’t forget about the rest of the room! If space is limited, use shelves and windowsills to spread the festive cheer with LED candles, glowing ornaments, and festive greenery.

While we often use many of the same pieces year after year, changing up things like napkin folds or the centrepiece can give them a fresh look. Most importantly, enjoy the process and have fun with it!

Every year, I create a wrapping theme so all my gifts look picture-perfect under the tree. If you want to take your wrapping to the next level, try these ideas:

🌿 Add natural touches like sprigs of greenery or pinecones.
🎨 Stick to a single colour scheme for a coordinated look.
💌 Personalise with homemade tags or heartfelt notes.
🌍 Wrap sustainably with reusable fabric like scarves or cloth squares.
🎀 Layer textures—think hessian, satin, and velvet ribbons for a luxe finish.

Wrapping gifts is even more fun when you make it a festive ritual. Set up your station, pour a glass of mulled wine, and pop on your favourite Christmas playlist or movie (Love Actually or The Holiday for me!)
