As we step into 2022 here is my quick guide on what we can expect the top design trends to be this year:
- Vintage is making a come back. With shortages in supply chains and the continued empathise on sustainability and the environment the importance of upcycling and one-of-a-kind finds is going to be a key trend in 2022. Add some personality to your space with a vintage piece you have made your own.
- Biophilic design is a trend we are already seeing after so long trapped in doors over the last few years. It goes beyond just having houseplants, it is about enhancing wellbeing and our connection to nature. Green hues in home décor to bring the outside in and freshen up the home with lots of natural light and ventilation.
- We are going to see a touch of Japandi with lots of natural elements incorporated into space. A muted colour palette with lots of natural light, natural wood, plants and natural materials.
- Versatile spaces and furniture were very much a feature of the pandemic but they are here to stay. Space no longer just serves one purpose; rooms need to adapt to the changing needs of the household. But also creating a home that you want to spend time not where you have to after the years that have passed.
- Home bars and drinks trolleys are predicted to be huge in 2022. I think many of us opened our own bars at home during lockdown and that trend to stay at home is continuing. Building in your own bar area into a nook in your lounge for example is a really clever use of space and means you’ll never have to worry about last orders again.
- Black accents are predicted to be a popular trend and is a great way to add edge and depth to a neutral palette. There are whispers of black being taken one step further with gothic kitchens making an appearance.
- Textured fabrics are on the up, being cosy is no longer enough, now fabrics will not only need to feel amazing but look chic and luxurious. This will add depth to space by using different materials and layering fabrics.
- Curved furniture, according to the experts, seems to be the trend taking over the furniture world. A revival of the timeless mid-century trend of the 60’s and 70’s where curved pieces now range from mirrors, kitchen islands and statement chairs.
If 2022 is the year you plan to start that renovation project or buy your dream home and these trends have inspired but you still need some guidance, then get in touch and I can help!
