Design Process

Making a decision to instruct or even contact an interior designer can be a daunting thought and puts many people off using interior design services. I have designed some packages which clearly layout the cost and what is included and take all the stress out of the process for you. However, if you have never worked with an interior designer before or don’t know much about interior designing, just knowing what the general process is from point of first contact to completion of a project may make it easier for you to decide whether working with Loke Interiors is for you.

Whilst the design process varies slightly depending on the package you choose generally the following steps are taken when working with me.

Informal chat
We begin our time together with an informal telephone chat (discovery call) where I go through a series of questions for us both to establish if Loke Interiors offers the right services for you. We will discuss your project aspirations and I will explain in more detail about the packages available and leave you with the opportunity of a briefing meeting to continue our design journey together.

The brief
Following our initial chat I will meet with you to capture all of your requirements, including your design hopes and dreams, style preferences, budget and timeline and which of my services or packages will work best for you. This is the most important stage of the process to be sure that what we create is authentic to you and your wishes and in ensuring that we are going to be happy working together. I will build a picture of the space through a site visit, floorplans and photos.

I then complete a full proposal outlining the brief and confirming the design fee for Loke Interiors’ services. Once you feel comfortable with the proposal and fee I’ll send you an agreement to sign. Don’t worry this is nothing full on, it just outlines what we have agreed in terms of the package, the space(s) to be worked on, what my responsibilities are to you as your designer and yours to me as my client and the associated fees.

Space plans and design concepts
Once you’ve signed the agreement the fun begins! During this next stage you can sit back and relax while I interpret the brief according to the package you have selected and come up with the designs; be that a mood board and room layout or colour scheme proposal.

It is important that we work together once I have created these initial concepts as I believe any designs need to reflect your personality and needs. So you will have the opportunity to feedback to ensure that I am on the right track. And don’t worry, it is okay for you to dislike some parts of the concepts or to need time to think about what I’ve shown you; your honesty is so important in me getting the design just right for you.

Design development
Once you are happy with the initial designs I will progress the design development and complete the final concepts depending on the package you have selected.

This may include colour scheme, materials and room layout. If you have picked the full decorative re-design package a complete shopping list with a breakdown of where to purchase each item and the cost will be provided along with a materials board with visual examples of the items.

Design realisation
This is where you take the designs and turn them into reality. You may chose to do this yourself or using your own contractors. I can be on hand for advice during this stage as it is important contractors understand the design concepts. Although not included in Loke Interiors’ packages I can be on hand to project manage some of or the entire design realisation with your contractors. This is charged at my hourly rate and may involve me visiting the site regularly or keeping in touch with contractors remotely to ensure everything is completed in time and on budget.

Styling and staging
The final and most exciting stage is bringing the final design to life and dressing the room so you are left with your perfect space.
