A common after thought I notice with clients when renovating a kitchen is thinking about their kitchen sink!
Most people know what style units they want, probably even the colour. They have thought about the appliances they want, the brand, and if they are a range cooker fan or want a giant Smeg fridge.
But sinks are often overlooked and people aren’t sure of the difference between a undermount and an insert and a Belfast and a butler sink.
So lets have a quick lesson on all you need to know about sinks so that when you come to renovate your kitchen next, you can confidently pick your sink first, not last!
What is the difference between a butler and a Belfast sink?
Well butler sinks tend to be wider and Belfast are usually deeps (good for washing small dogs in!).
They aren’t for everyone though as you need a special unit to fit them in and whilst they look gorgeous in a country cottage kitchen they won’t look good in a sleek modern design.
Another point to consider is the material the sink is made from and there are so many to chose from.
The most popular being white ceramic and stainless-steel.
The top pick is often stainless because it is stain resistant and hardy and whilst it can scratch it won’t chip.
In more contemporary designs often inset or undermount sinks are picked. But what is the difference?
Inset sinks give you the advantage of a draining board and the option of a second sink or inset bowl.
Undermounts are installed under the worktop giving you a seamless appearance but often require draining to be added to the worktop.
There also options using different colours such as black, copper or polished brass.
Sinks can really vary in price depending where you shop, there are some real bargains to be had in stores such as Ikea and Screwfix.
I hope that helps!
