Brief –Create a Harry Potter themed bedroom for a 9 year old’s birthday present. The room needed to be able to adapt for the girl as she goes from primary to secondary school. She adores Harry Potter and specifically the Slytherin house.
Design – This decorative re-design project was such fun to work on and learn about my young clients wants and needs for the space. Lots of bedroom interior ideas were discussed; it was important to her that the room reflected the Slytherin house but also other elements of the Harry Potter world she loved. Her room is her relaxing space where she reads and plays, but also where she does her homework and makes up dance routines. The scheme reflected the greens and silver greys of Slytherin in the features such as the bedding, the chair and the tie backs (made out of Slytherin school ties). The drawers under the desk were decorated with features from the books, such as suitcase handles and Golden Snitches. The room was sectioned to have a cosy area with a Golden Snitch bespoke bean bag for chilling out and a more formal chair for sitting and reading. The two highlights for my client were the ladder to the window mirror (to be used as she grows into a clothes obsessed teenager for throwing clothes on) and the light up magic wand above her bed. The scheme created a bit of magic but left the room practical, cosy but with room to still play or just hang out when friends come over.
