In this month’s colour series I am focusing on the colour terracotta. These warm tones work well in family areas and kitchens.
This autumnal colour is often seen in nature contrasting with vibrant greens. Style the colour with accents such as houseplants or a green jute rug. The contrast between the colours is stunning.
I would recommend using darker shades in north facing rooms, embrace the darkness and create a cosy feel whereas in south facing ones, where light reflects back into the room use watered down shades.
The colour gives you a sense of Mediterranean living and can feel glamorous when paired with white. Why not paint your walls white and have a terracotta colour floor with woven rugs.
Terracotta works well paired with warm metals adding sophistication or with marble for a crisp contemporary look and both show the versatility and depth of the colour to add warmth to a space.
With its earthy tones this colour lends itself to lots of natural texture and accessories of linens, weaves, velvets and artisan ceramics.
My top picks of this shade are Terracotta Warrior matt emulsion from Fired Earth, Heat Absolute matt emulsion from Little Greene and Spicy Paprika flat matt emulsion by Dulux.
